Ruaha is in south-central Tanzania, roughly 130 km from the town of Iringa. Its remoteness keeps visitor numbers low and the wilderness feel high — most guests arrive by air rather than road.
The most efficient way in is a scheduled safari flight to one of the park’s airstrips, typically from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar or the Southern Circuit hubs. Road access is possible but long.
While technically possible via charter flights, it’s highly inefficient — they sit on opposite circuits. Ruaha pairs far more naturally with Nyerere and a Zanzibar beach finish on a Southern Circuit itinerary.
No — there are no wild black or white rhinos left in Ruaha. For rhino, the Ngorongoro Crater or the Serengeti’s Moru Kopjes are the reliable options. Ruaha’s draw is its lions, elephants and wild dogs.
