6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari from Nairobi – Overview
A 6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari from Nairobi is one of the most popular cross-border safari experiences in East Africa, designed for travelers who want to explore both Kenya and Tanzania in one seamless journey. This itinerary, 6 Day Kenya Tanzania Safari Package, combines the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve with Serengeti National Park and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.
Starting and ending in Nairobi makes this safari highly convenient, eliminating the need for multi-city flights while keeping costs manageable. The route follows a logical flow through the Serengeti ecosystem, maximizing wildlife viewing time while avoiding unnecessary backtracking.
During this 6 day Masai Mara Serengeti Ngorongoro safari, you will enjoy expertly guided game drives, diverse landscapes, and exceptional wildlife encounters, including the Big Five. Depending on the season, travelers may also witness the dramatic Great Migration and Mara River crossings, making this itinerary one of the most rewarding safari packages in East Africa.
Why Choose This 6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari from Nairobi
Choosing a Kenya and Tanzania safari from Nairobi return offers clear advantages for most travelers, especially those visiting Africa for the first time. Flights into and out of Nairobi are typically more affordable, and returning to the same city simplifies travel planning and logistics.
This 6 Day Kenya Tanzania Safari itinerary is carefully structured to deliver a smooth cross-border experience via the Isebania border, connecting Masai Mara directly to Serengeti. This approach allows more time for game drives and less time on the road, which significantly improves the overall safari experience.
Another important benefit is the balance between travel time and wildlife viewing. Each destination is given enough time to explore properly, ensuring that the safari feels immersive rather than rushed.
Where This 6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari Takes You
This 6 day Kenya and Tanzania safari itinerary takes you through three of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations, all within the greater Serengeti ecosystem.
The journey begins in the Masai Mara National Reserve, known for its open plains, high density of wildlife, and excellent chances of spotting the Big Five. From there, the safari continues into Serengeti National Park, famous for its vast landscapes and large populations of predators.
The experience concludes at the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The crater’s unique environment allows for exceptional game viewing within a relatively small area, making it a highlight of any Kenya and Tanzania safari 6 days experience.
Can You See the Great Migration and Mara River Crossing in 5 Day Tanzania Kenya Safari?
Many travelers choose a 5 Day Kenya Tanzania Safari Package hoping to witness the Great Migration, one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles on Earth. Each year, more than 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles migrate between the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing.
During the migration season, particularly from July to September, there is a chance to witness the famous Mara River crossing. This dramatic moment occurs when large herds attempt to cross crocodile-filled waters while predators wait nearby, creating one of the most thrilling scenes in the African wilderness.
Although river crossings cannot be guaranteed due to the unpredictable movement of the herds, a 5 Day Kenya Tanzania Safari during migration season offers an exciting opportunity to experience this natural phenomenon while enjoying exceptional wildlife viewing across both countries.
Best Time for a 6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari
The best time to book a 6 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari from Nairobi depends on your travel goals, although this itinerary offers excellent wildlife viewing throughout the year.
From July to October, the safari aligns with the Great Migration, when large herds of wildebeest and zebras move between the Masai Mara and Northern Serengeti. This period provides the best chance to witness the famous Mara River crossings.
Between December and March, wildlife viewing remains excellent with fewer crowds and strong predator activity. This is an ideal time for travelers seeking a quieter safari experience with great photography conditions.
April and May fall within the rainy season, which brings lush green landscapes but can make travel conditions more challenging, particularly for cross-border routes.

Amazing Trip around Kenya and Tanzania
My wife and I did a 7-day safari with Active Wonders last August, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. We got super lucky with our drivers and guides Patrick in Kenya and Six in Tanzania were awesome. They really know their stuff, driving like pros without even needing GPS, and they were amazing at spotting animals and finding the best views.

An adventure that was beyond my expectations. Brilliant
This was such an amazing trip that covered the Ngorongoro crater area with all its wildlife roaming freely the Serengeti and the migration of the Wildebeests crossing over into Kenya. Wonderful varied accommodation from well equipped tents with all amenities to hotels and lodges. Zebras lions with cubs bathing hippos leopards during the night safari and numerous birds including vultures waiting for their next meal. Elephants and giraffes were everywhere so all in all this was a fabulous tour.

Who could ask for more?
Being river crossing time of year our anticipation of this safari to begin our visit to Tanzania was high and was realised.
We departed Arusha and headed for Tarangire National Park. As expected the Elephants were prolific and backed up with many other wildlife to keep us happy as well. We stayed at Elephant Lodge which is constructed from old shipping containers. It was terrific, nice accomodation, food and lovely staff.
