Absolutely — it’s highly recommended for travellers with a spare day near Arusha. In a compact area you get canoeing, walking safaris, a flamingo-filled crater and Mount Meru, making it one of the most varied short safaris in Tanzania.
No — Arusha is a predator-light park, so you won’t see all of the Big Five. There are no lions or rhinos, but you will find giraffe, buffalo, zebra, elephant, and abundant primates and birds. Its safety on foot is part of the appeal.
A single day of 8–10 hours is typically enough to explore the highlights — a game drive, a canoe on the Momella Lakes and the Ngurdoto Crater viewpoints. Climbing Mount Meru is a separate multi-day trek.
Arusha city, roughly 40 minutes’ drive away. That proximity makes the park perfect as a first-day warm-up before a longer Northern Circuit safari, or a relaxed final day before flying home.
