Best Time to Visit Tanzania for a 7 Day Safari
The best time for a 7 day Tanzania safari depends on what you want to experience—whether it’s peak wildlife viewing during the dry season or fewer crowds and lush landscapes during the green season. Northern Tanzania parks like Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater offer excellent game viewing year-round, but each season provides a different safari experience.
Dry Season (June to October) – Best for Wildlife Viewing
The dry season is widely considered the best time to visit Tanzania for safari, especially for first-time travelers.
- Animals gather around water sources, making wildlife easier to spot
- Excellent visibility due to shorter grass and dry landscapes
- High chances of seeing predators in action
- Ideal time to visit Serengeti National Park and witness parts of the Great Migration
Best for: Big Five sightings, classic safari experience
Green Season (November to May) – Best for Scenery & Value
The green season, also known as the rainy season, offers a different but equally rewarding safari experience.
- Lush green landscapes and dramatic scenery
- Fewer tourists and more exclusive safari experience
- Lower safari prices (especially mid-range and camping)
- Best time for birdwatching and photography
From January to March, the southern Serengeti becomes the center of the calving season, where thousands of wildebeest give birth—attracting predators and creating intense wildlife action.
Best for: Photography, fewer crowds, better pricing
Which Season Should You Choose?
- Choose dry season if your priority is easy wildlife viewing and peak safari conditions
- Choose green season if you want fewer crowds, and unique wildlife moments
Both seasons offer excellent safari experiences, especially in areas like the Ngorongoro Crater, where wildlife viewing is consistently good year-round.

Amazing Trip around Kenya and Tanzania
My wife and I did a 7-day safari with Active Wonders last August, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. We got super lucky with our drivers and guides Patrick in Kenya and Six in Tanzania were awesome. They really know their stuff, driving like pros without even needing GPS, and they were amazing at spotting animals and finding the best views.

An adventure that was beyond my expectations. Brilliant
This was such an amazing trip that covered the Ngorongoro crater area with all its wildlife roaming freely the Serengeti and the migration of the Wildebeests crossing over into Kenya. Wonderful varied accommodation from well equipped tents with all amenities to hotels and lodges. Zebras lions with cubs bathing hippos leopards during the night safari and numerous birds including vultures waiting for their next meal. Elephants and giraffes were everywhere so all in all this was a fabulous tour.

Who could ask for more?
Being river crossing time of year our anticipation of this safari to begin our visit to Tanzania was high and was realised.
We departed Arusha and headed for Tarangire National Park. As expected the Elephants were prolific and backed up with many other wildlife to keep us happy as well. We stayed at Elephant Lodge which is constructed from old shipping containers. It was terrific, nice accomodation, food and lovely staff.

A dream come true for us, amazing safari trip!
We booked direct with Active Wonders (Allano) and from the very beginning, the communication has been great and he has been very transparent as well. We booked 5-nights Luxury Safari covering all parts of Serengeti all the way to the north. Thank you so much for accommodating our group since we kept adding people in the group and we ended up with a group of 9 people! During the trip itself, we got 2 cars and 2 drivers (Amini and Mariki), and Allano also came along to make sure
