Tanzania In June

June marks the beginning of the dry season in Tanzania, characterized by mild temperatures and clear skies. The country experiences its coolest weather during this time, particularly in the highlands and northern regions. In popular tourist destinations such as Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro, temperatures range between 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 68°F). Coastal areas, including Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, are warmer with temperatures averaging around 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F)

June is an exceptional time to embark on wildlife encounters and safaris in Tanzania. As the dry season unfolds, the country’s national parks become a haven for diverse wildlife. Witnessing the annual wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is undoubtedly a highlight. Millions of herbivores, including zebra and gazelle, navigate treacherous river crossings, followed closely by predators such as lions and crocodiles.

The Ngorongoro Crater also flourishes during June, offering a unique opportunity to spot an array of animals congregating around its water sources. Additionally, Tarangire National Park presents an excellent chance to observe large elephant herds gathering near the Tarangire River. With abundant water sources attracting numerous animals from miles away, this park guarantees unforgettable sightings. The Selous Game Reserve is another gem where you can enjoy boat safaris along the Rufiji River amidst hippos and crocodiles.

As the initial month of winter in the southern hemisphere, June inaugurates Zanzibar’s extended dry season, establishing itself as the driest and sunniest period the island encounters throughout the year. June is characterized by strong winds, making it the prime season for indulging in water sports. Furthermore, an extraordinary natural spectacle unfolds just a boat ride away. From June to September, on Juani Island, situated south of Zanzibar near Mafia Island, you can witness a breathtaking event as thousands of sea turtle hatchlings embark on an exhilarating journey from their nests to the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean.

In contrast to the preceding months of April and May, June marks the onset of the peak tourist season in Tanzania. This shift in timing is due to the arrival of dry weather, which not only provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities but also draws larger crowds of safari enthusiasts. The reduced rainfall ensures clearer skies and increases the concentration of animals in specific areas of national parks. As a result, accommodations tend to fill up quickly, making it advisable to plan and book your trip well in advance.
