Everything you need for a seamless day — and the few things to bring or budget for yourself.
The focus here is hiking and kayaking rather than swimming — the lake is deep with steep walls, and swimming is generally discouraged. You’ll experience the water safely by kayak with a life vest.
The descent trail takes 30–45 minutes and is moderate — steep and rocky in places, so sturdy shoes help. The return climb is the harder half, but manageable at a steady pace.
Often, yes — on clear mornings, especially June to October, Kilimanjaro rises behind you on the drive and from the rim. Cloud can hide it later in the day, so early starts give the best odds.
Sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen), a camera or binoculars, and swimwear if you’d like. Lunch, water, the guide and kayaking are included.
