Just a smooth 2-hour drive west of Arusha, Lake Manyara is a scenic bridge on the Northern Circuit, perfectly placed between Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Manyara’s prides are famous for draping themselves over ancient acacia branches — escaping ground heat and tsetse flies while keeping a vantage over grazing prey.
The shallow, mineral-rich alkaline waters serve as a massive feeding ground for millions of lesser flamingos, banding the lake edge in shifting pink.
Dense ground-water forests shelter enormous baboon troops and blue monkeys — a primate-watcher’s highlight found in few other parks.
Manyara’s two seasons pull in opposite directions — big game versus birding — so the best window depends on what you want to see.

No sighting is ever guaranteed in the wild, but Manyara is one of the very few places on Earth where lions habitually climb trees. Your best odds are in the dry season (June to October), when sparse vegetation makes the prides easier to spot draped in the acacias.
The canopy walkway ticket is $23.60 per person, inclusive of VAT. Most travellers pair it with a guide, bringing the total experience to roughly $30–$40 per person.
Because it’s compact, a half-day to a full day is enough to experience the highlights — the lake, the forest, and the canopy walk. It pairs perfectly as a Northern Circuit stop between Tarangire and Ngorongoro.
Lake Manyara is smaller and dominated by an alkaline lake, dense ground-water forests, baboon troops and tree-climbing lions. Tarangire is much larger, with dry savannah, giant baobabs and massive elephant herds. Combining both makes a fantastic two-day contrast.
